Summary: Ben Sladeen had come to Two Mile and taken a job as ramrod of the Barbed Wire spread with the intention of starting a new life. He wanted nothing to remind him of the old days in New Orleans, when he had been carefree and in love until the King brothers and Curly Temper had shattered the idyll and forced him to leave town. Now, Temper has bought a ranch adjoining the Barbed Wire and sets out once more to foil and frustrate Sladeen. With John Cross, Ben's boss, in no condition to defend himself, Ben resorts to trickery in order to protect his employer. When Cross didn't know what he was doing, Ben has him sign over ownership of the ranch so Ben can fight Temper on even terms. It's at this point that first Vern, and then Guy, King show up in Two Mile, proving that history not only repeats itself, but sometimes does so with the same actors.
